
Doha, 21 February 2019 - HH The Amir’s Sword Equestrian Championship 2019 is all set for an exciting start at Qatar Equestrian Federation’s (QEF) Outdoor Arena from Thursday. The prestigious event which attracts top showjumping riders of the region and is competed fiercely will be held over three days from February 21 to 23.
Among the several young and upcoming riders of repute will also be Qatar’s Olympians Sheikh Ali bin Khaled al Thani and Bassem Hassan Mohammed.
The mandatory veterinary checks for the horses was conducted on Wednesday and the competitions will begin with the Small Tour (110/120cm) with an overall prize of QR5,000.
On the same day, the Medium Tour – with an overall prize bag of QR10,000 – will have riders competiting from 6:30pm in the 125/125cm category.
The last event on the opening day of HH Amir’s Sword Championships will see battle for top honours in the Big Tour competition set to begin at 8.30pm. The overall prize-money for Competition three is QR 15,000.
On Friday, young entries will feature in two Future Riders competitions to be held at QEF’s Indoor Arena. The first competition for the juniors will start at 1:30pm whereas the second will kick off at 2pm.
On day two, senior riders will jostle for top finish in the Small Tour (110/120cm, one round against the clock) that will carry prizes worth QR 10,000.
The Medium Tour (125/125cm one round against the clock) will be worth QR 20,000. The Big Tour, the last event of the day, (140/150cm, one round against the clock) will start at 8pm. The event will carry a total prize of QR30,000.
On Saturday, the final day of the championships, the dressage competitions will precede the Big Tour (140/150cm, one round against the clock) event with QR50,000 and a brand new car for the winner at stake.
This will be followed by the Small Tour (110/120cm, one round against the clock, QR20,000) event which will start at 4pm while the Medium Tour (125/135cm, one round against the clock, QR35,000) will kick off at 6pm.
According to the championships’ rules, each rider can compete in only one category with two horses allowed per athlete.
The starting order in each competition will be determined by a new draw, organisers said.
Each participant rider and horse needs to have a valid QEF License for his entry to be accepted.
