Doha, 23 August 2020 - Al Duhail SC underlined their superiority in the Qatar Stars League when they won the title, their seventh in ten years, with a 1-0 victory against Al Ahli on Friday.
Duhail were feeling the heat from second-placed Al Rayyan, who were just a point behind before the final round of matches, but Walid Regragui’s men calmly negotiated the final hurdle at Al Janoub Stadium.
Rayyan defeated Al Wakrah 2-0 but had to settle for second as Duhail never looked like they were going to let the opportunity go. Xavi Hernandez-coached Al Sadd were third while aL Al Gharafa came fourth.
Duhail took a while to get going but once Edmilson put them ahead in the 24th minute, they were always in control.
Earlier, Muntari had put the ball in the Ahli net in the fifth minute, but he was pulled up for offside. Almoez then missed a sitter when he totally mistimed his header off Edmilson’s cross from the right.
