Cairo, 6 September 2020 - Asian champions Qatar have been placed in Group C as the draw for the 2021 IHF Men’s World Championship was held yesterday at the Giza Pyramids Plateau in Egypt.
Qatar, who played the final of the event in 2015, are bracketed a m o n g Croatia, Japan and Angola. The IHF Men’s H a n d b a l l World Champ i o n s h i p - Egypt will take place from January 13 to 31.
Reigning champions Denmark are in Group D along with Argentina, Bahrain, D R Congo in the 32-team event. Al Anabi will undergo an extensive preparation for the event and will also host four-nation Qatar International Championship from December 25 to 29 in build up for the IHF World Championship.
Qatar will also fly to Spain for a short training camp in Spain in first week of January. Qatar has become a strong side under Spanish coach Valero Rivera Lopez.
The Al Anabi qualified for the tournament after winning the Asian Men’s Championship 2020 - their fourth consecutive continental title after their triumphs in 2014, 2016, and 2018 editions. The 2021 edition will be the biggest event in term of participation as it will be the first time that 32 teams will feature in the competition.
