Workshop highlights family's role in drug prevention

Doha, 18 October 2020 - The Ministry of Culture and Sports recently organised a training workshop for the first batch of youth entrepreneurs.

The two-day workshop, chaired by Minister of Culture and Sports H.E. Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali, discussed a number of topics including drug prevention and the issue of values, customs and traditions among generations. 

The Minister gave a lecture about the importance of the values in dealing with the drug issue. 

Dr. Mohammad Al Ansari, Adviser to the Minister of Culture and Sports, said: “The training workshop for the first batch of youth entrepreneurs came in a comprehensive and varied manner, indicating that the role of the family and society are complementary to each other in preserving children and youth.”

He also said that the family has an important role to protect youth and future generations from the dangers of illicit drugs, pointing to some cases that have arisen in an unstable family environment.

Al Ansari urged parents to monitor and follow up with their children in light of the current circumstances and the current openness, stressing that they are trying to control the conditions of the abusers or save them before they fall in the abuse trap. They work hard to cooperate with families and parents in this aspect.

For her part, Maha Al Rumaihi, Director of the Youth Affairs Department, said: “These workshops come from the ministry’s belief in the importance of involving youth in achieving its strategy, as we deal with youth as partners, and we work together to achieve the desired goals and objectives."

She added, “The workshop targeted a group of graduates who now possess training skills and our goal of this workshop is for young people to benefit in the field of training and to provide awareness workshops and lectures on drugs, according to what they learned in how to deal with the drug issue and raise awareness of drug issue.”
