Harimoto wins men’s singles title

Doha, 14 March 2021 - Tomokazu Harimoto claimed the inaugural World Table Tennis Star Contender men’s singles title here at the Losail Multipurpose Hall.

The Japanese prodigy overcame jitters, but was good enough to dispatch his German opponent Ruwenzori Filus 4-2 (11-9, 11-9, 12-14, 11-5, 7-11, 11-8) in the contest.

Harimoto, who is just 17-year-old, missed the WTT Contender title by a whisker after going down to Germany’s Dimitiry Ovtachorov in the final last Saturday (March 6).

But within a week, the Japanese regained his composure and came good in the upper tier of the WTT Middle East Hub.

Leading 4-1, Harimoto had some minor distractions and conceded the fourth game 7-11.

But the world No.5 quickly regained his self in the sixth to quell Filus’s challenge.
