Dhergham Bu Thaila

Doha, 8 April 2021 - Subaiya Awad Ibrahim’s Dhergham Bu Thaila (Soviet Secret x Dualite) clinched his first win of the season when the gelding landed Al Dibal Cup (Local Thoroughbred Conditions) at Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club's racetrack at Al Rayyan Park yesterday.

Ridden by JP Guillambert, the Mohamed Khaled Elahmed-trained 6yo had shown sparks of farm when second and third over C&D earlier in the season but had left a lot to be desired from otherwise.

Yesterday, in the six-furlong sprint, the chestnut put up a determined run on the straight to bag the feature with two and a half lengths to spare as Guillambert rode his fifth winner of the evening.

Abdulatif Hussain Al Emadi’s Bab Al Rayyan (Mayson x Dorothy’s Dancing), trained by Bader Al Balushi, finished runner up under Marco Casamento while the Ibrahim Saeed Al Malki-schooled Al Faisaliya (Coach House x Shielaligh) was ridden to third place by Tomas Lukasek in Al Sakab Stud colours.

QREC Racing Manager Abdulla Rashid Al Kubaisi presented the winner's trophy to Mrs Subaiya's representative.

Earlier, Injaaz Stud's Lekhraib (QA) (AF AlBahar x Grace T) finished on top in the Purebred Arabian Conditions on dirt as Marco Casamento rode the Mohammed Ghazali-trained 7YO horse to a 3¾-length win in the 1100m run.

Meshaal bin Ali Al Attiyah's Shine That Light (GB) (Acclamation x Spotlight) won the Thoroughbred Handicap (0-75). Guillambert rode the Ghazali-trained 3YO colt to a 3½-length win in the 6f Class 5 run.

Earlier, Nasser Saeed Al Eida's Creativity (GB) (Mayson x Fantasize) won the Thoroughbred Handicap (0-75) class with popular rider Alberto Sanna in the saddle. Sanna rode the Ghazali-trained 4YO filly to a 3½-length win in the 6f Class 5 run for fillies and mares.

Al Hajaj Stud's William Bligh (GB)  (Thoroughbred Handicap), Al Ghazali Stud's AJS Al Aredh (QA) (Purebred Arabian Handicap), Khalifa bin Sheail Al Kuwari's Majd'or (FR) (Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate) and Hamad bin Abdulrahman Al Attiya's Badira (QA) (Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate) were also among the winners.

The Abdullah Sultan Al Jaber bred, owned and trained Umm Thaga (QA) (Muthaaber x La Pampita) emerged victorious in the Local Thoroughbred Maiden Plate, the opening race of the day.
