Al Shamal and Al Gharafa Set to Meet in Arab Super Cup

Doha, 8 June 2021 - The 3rd Arab Super Cup for handball will be a Qatari affair as Al Gharafa and Al Shamal are set to meet today at Duhail Sports Hall. 

Al Gharafa will feature in this year's edition as the winner of the Arab Club Championship for handball in its 35th edition, which was held in the Jordanian capital, Amman back in 2019. Al Gharafa defeated Algeria's GS Petroliers 36-32. Meanwhile, Al Shamal was crowned champion of the 15th Arab Handball Championship for Cup winners, which was held in Tunisia last year. Al Shamal beat Al Arabi in the final 33-31. 

In the press conference, Al Gharafa coach Shawky Balqasem confirmed his teams readiness to meet Al-Shamal for the third Arab Super Cup. He added that this type of competition benefits from  experience, something Al Gharafa has given the team has participated in it before. 

For his part, Amr Jalal, coach of Al Shamal, said that his team will be ready for the Arab Super match against Al Gharafa, adding that he likes his team's chances. He said that, during his month in charge, he has worked to improve the chemistry between his players on the court. He also said that he is well aware of Al Gharafa's abilities, expressing his great respect for the team.
