Doha, 4 July 2021 - Qatar's hammer thrower Ashraf Amgad El Seify has qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games by virtue of his world ranking of 19.
Ashraf, who recently won a silver at the Arab Championships in Tunisia, is the eighth Qatari qualifier in athletics. A total of 15 Qatari sportspersons have made the grade for Tokyo across various disciplines.
Tokyo will be the 26-year-old Ashraf’s second Olympics. He was sixth on his Olympic debut in Rio 2016.
There were 32 places on offer in hammer throw and out of which, 26 were taken by throwers who met the qualifying standard of 77.50M. Five slots were filled as per the world rankings and one through universality quota.
Ashraf has a personal best of 78.16M while this season, his best is 74.51M.
