Tokyo, 26 July 2021 - Qatari rower Tala Abujubara claimed the first place in the semi-final E/F 1 race to qualify for the final E of Women’s Single Scull event to be held on Thursday.

At the Sea Forest Waterway in Tokyo, Tala clocked a time of 8:24:24 minutes to lead the standings ahead of Uganda’s Kathleen Noble, Nigeria’s Esther Toko and Sudan’s Esraa Khogali.

Elsewhere, at the Nippon Budokan, Qatar’s star judoka, Ayoub Elidrissi, suffered a defeat at the hands of Belorussia’s Dzmitry Minkou in the Men’s 66kg event.

Elidrissi participation in the Olympics is a positive turning point in his career which will help him improve his international experience.

Meanwhile, Team Qatar sprinter Bashayer Al Manwari said, “I’m really determined to break my personal record. I’m very proud to be part of these Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games as I have been dreaming to participate in Olympics since long years ago, now my dream turned into reality and I’m the only Qatari female athlete to participate in the athletics competitions.”

“Yes, it is a beautiful and challenging task but I’m ready to take the responsibility and raise the scale of challenge against top competitors. I have been fond of triple jump since my early years as a young girl, I had fantastic achievements in the triple jump over the past years, but in these games, I represent my country in 100m event. So, shifting from sport discipline to another had no any negative effect on me, right now I’m looking to fight tooth and nail to break my personal record,” Manwari added.
