Doha, 21 June 2022 - The Ministry of Sports and Youth has organised Sports Excellence Day ceremony, honouring the clubs for their outstanding achievements during the 2021-2022 season.
Minister of Sports and Youth H E Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali honoured Al Sadd for winning the Sports Excellence Award for the 2021-22 season. Al Sadd CEO Turki Al Ali received the prize of QR1.5m. Al Sadd won the award for the 19th consecutive time (20th overall) after topping points table following outstanding performance in the team and individual competitions in all age groups.
H E Salah bin Ghanim also awarded the second place award to Al Arabi President Sheikh Tamim bin Fahd Al Thani and the third place award to Vice President of Al Rayyan Football Club Ali Salem Afifa.
On the occasion, Advisor to H E the Minister of Sports and Youth Abdulrahman Musallam Al Dosari said the Sports Excellence Award embodies the directives of the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and his great support for sports.
He added that the award also comes within the strategy and competencies of the Ministry of Sports and Youth that intends to raise the level of sport in the country to the point of excellence, as well as enable Qatari youth to practice sports professionally and creatively.
He pointed out that the award would strengthen the role of general assemblies and enable Qatari youth to assume their responsibilities and engage in public work through effective participation in the governance and rational management of clubs and sports bodies in accordance with systematic strategic plans based on the optimal use of available data and capabilities to accomplish desired results.
During the ceremony, the Ministry introduced new standards related to community sports and the importance of expanding the base of practitioners by establishing community sports programmes and activities, with the aim of promoting awareness of the importance of sport in the lives of individuals and societies.
The Sports Excellence Award aims to design a systematic framework for evaluating the efforts made in sports, in a way that contributes to encouraging sports clubs and bodies to play their vital role to achieve national visions, desired goals and state leadership in fulfilling the aspirations and requirements of Qatari society in terms of sport.
