 Zero Waste Festival

Doha, 22 June 2022 - In collaboration with Torba Farmers Market, One Tide hosted a three-day zero waste festival at Doha Festival City, ahead of its large-scale zero waste festival due to take place in November during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
The event highlighted the amount of waste generated daily and its environmental impact, as well as tips and guidance on how to minimize waste through a plethora of engaging displays and activities aimed at encouraging the public to become more conscientious.
With a booth constructed using recycled wood and wood offcuts, the three-day event showcased three main areas, including a green hub highlighting local eco-friendly companies demonstrating their waste reduction products and services.
The event also included a nature area a play space for children where they were exposed to natural materials and allowed to participate in interactive workshops encouraging sustainability. Adults were also treated to a thrift shop fix in the unique pre-loved boutique that offered a sustainable and green shopping experience.
The festival is part of a wider program of events aimed at raising awareness and encouraging positive change in Qatar's community to reduce its impact on the environment, according to the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC).
"We've been advocating for greener thinking for many years and have already made great strides in this journey, but there is always more to be done. We want to encourage sustainable behaviors and practices across the nation, and with the world's focus on Qatar ahead of the FIFA World Cup, this is a great opportunity to build on our progress to-date and highlight our commitment to reducing our impact on the environment," said Bodour Al Meer, Director of Sustainability at the Supreme Committee of Delivery & Legacy.
Al Meer added, "We're delighted to be partnering with Torba on this incredible project. It promises to be a real opportunity for the public to learn some very practical and simple tips on how they can be more eco-friendly in their everyday lives." Torba will launch a local 'green directory' highlighting the country's best sustainable community initiatives, and a list of leading local green companies, including the best recycling services.
One Tide will continue to inform and engage with people and businesses in Qatar throughout 2022, as the country prepares to host the first FIFA World Cup in the Middle East and Arab world. The program will provide regular social media updates about plastic reduction projects and explain how plastic waste is harming the world's oceans and marine life.
