Doha, 25 April 2019 - Aspetar, the orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital, has provided comprehensive world-class medical services at the 23rd Asian Athletics Championships Doha 2019, which took place at Khalifa International Stadium from April 21- 24.

The Asian Athletics Championships Doha 2019 has served as the test event for the upcoming IAAF World Athletic Championship Doha 2019, from September 27 – October 6.

Aspetar, through the National Sports Medicine Programme (NSMP), provided round-the-clock medical and health services to athletes, on-site emergency and first aid care and transfer of urgent and non-urgent medical cases to appropriate medical facilities. These services were available to 40 participating countries, 800 registered athletes and 200 team officials during the course of the event.

Aspetar’s multidisciplinary medical team of experts is staffed by some of the world’s leading sports medicine physicians, nurses, massage therapists and physiotherapists, all of whom have supported the world-class event.

In addition, from May 3-5, Aspetar is gearing up to host the International Conference on Sports and Medicine. The conference is being prepared by the scientific planning committee at Aspetar and will feature local and international experts.

By supporting sports mega events in the country, Aspetar is cementing its leading role in the treatment and prevention of injury to local, regional and international athletes across all sports. Aspetar’s experts have a wealth of experience in supporting athletes participating in major tournaments in Qatar, including the IAAF Diamond League 2018, FINA/HOSA Marathon Swim World series 2018, 2018 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championship, 2016 UCI Road Cycling World Championships, 24th Men’s Handball World Championship in 2015, 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championships.

Qatar’s status as a world-leading sports hub grows more assured each day. In a short period of time, the country has emerged as a sporting capital of the Middle East and Asia after winning the rights to host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ in 2010, which will set a new benchmark for hosting sports mega events in the country.

Aspetar is a world leading specialised orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital, and the first of its kind in the Middle East. Since 2007, with a world expert team, the hospital has provided top-level comprehensive medical treatment to all athletes in a state-of-the-art facility that sets new standards internationally.

In 2009, Aspetar was accredited as a “FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence” by F-MARC. In 2013, Aspetar was adopted as a reference collaborator centre by the Gulf Countries Council (GCC) Health Ministers Council and “IOC Research Centre for Prevention of Injury and Protection of Athlete Health” in 2014.

In 2015, Aspetar has been recognised as the “IHF Reference Centre for Athlete and Referee Health”. In the same year, the hospital also achieved the obtained on December 15 the Accreditation Canada International (ACI) “Platinum Level”.
