Culture Minister opens exhibition by artist Ahmed Al Maadeed

Doha, 12 November 2022 - Minister of Culture H E Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani inaugurated an exhibition “Hadaf” by artist Ahmed Al Maadeed at AM Gallery in the Place Vendôme Mall.

The exhibition, which was held ahead of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, will run until January 15, 2023.

The opening ceremony was attended by a group of artists, intellectuals and media professionals. The exhibition is showcasing different artworks about the World Cup and is divided into two sections: one cultural, and the other sports.

The cultural section celebrates some of the Qatari heritage vocabulary, and the Qatari dress, such as Al Bakhnaq, Al Ghutra and Al Aqal, as well as some animals from the Qatari environment, such as the Oryx.

The sports section is dedicated to highlighting famous football players and others paintings in this regard. The circle, which is usually in the middle of the football field, has been drawn in the center of the exhibition hall.

In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), artist Ahmed Al Maadeed said that the exhibition, which includes more than 45 artworks, simulates Qatari sports and culture, which welcomes visitors to this World Cup. He noted that holding the exhibition at this particular time provides an atmosphere of pleasure and passion for all visitors, in order to achieve the goal, which is to enjoy the World Cup matches.

If the goal of the competing players and teams is to score goals, then Al Maadeed set his sights on one goal in educating the local and global audience of what our country is rich in of a rich civilisational heritage, and a culture whose roots are deep in history which is ‘the art’.

The exhibition will be accompanied by organising artistic and cultural activities during the World Cup, within the framework of the services and objectives provided by IM Gallery, which was opened a few weeks ago.
