Doha, 16 May 2019 - The Amir Cup final is as it is the biggest fixture of Qatar’s domestic football calendar, but this year the title clash between top guns Al Sadd and Al Duhail SC has plenty of added significance to draw the attention of football world.
To start with, it is also the unveiling of the state-of-the-art Al Wakrah Stadium, which is going to be the second completed arena for the 2022 World Cup.
The 40,000 capacity stadium, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects in association with AECOM, comes with an innovative cooling system and a retractable roof, among many other features.
The final is also the swansong of Sadd captain Xavi Hernandez, who is a legendary figure in world football after his exploits with Barcelona and Spain national team.
