Colombia footballer named as Save the Dream Ambassador

Doha, 23 December 2022 -  Save the Dream, a global initiative by Doha based International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS) has announced the appointment of Isabella Echeverri, Colombian professional football player and winner of the gold medal in the Pan-American Games of 2019, to become the latest ambassador in 2022. 

Isabella’s appointment will see the 28-year-old international footballer join the team of Save the Dream’s internationally renowned champions currently including Alessandro Del Piero. Christian Karembeu, David Trezeguet, Fernando Hierro, Fernando Sanz, Tegla Loroupe, Rosa Mota, Penny Heyns, Giusy Versace, Sheikh Fahad Bin Khalid Al Thani, Nuno Delgado, Fiona May, and Honey Thaljieh, just to name a few.

Save the Dream is operated by ICSS with the support of Ooredoo, the technology partner, to empower youth through safe access to sport and its educational and social values.

Isabella, who plays as a centre back for Liga MX Femenil club CF Monterrey and the Colombia women’s national team, agreed to support Save the Dream’s mission by promoting the positive values of sport among youth and girls in particular, using the power of football to inspire them and break down barriers and stereotypes.

An icon and role model for many, Isabella has been part of the Colombian national team for the last ten years, making history in tournaments such as the Olympics Games and the Women’s World Cup. Captain of every team she has ever been part of, she holds two bachelor’s degrees and three master’s degrees.

Speaking on her new role, Isabella Echeverri said: “It’s a great honor to become one of the Ambassadors of Save the Dream. I am so happy to be part of this global initiative and help to create a future where girls and women can have the right to safely access sport and its educational and social values.

“I grew up believing that dreams had no limits. Football has the power to unite people, dispel stereotypes, and break down social barriers.”
