Doha, 1 August 2023 - Al Rayyan Club announced the approval of Sheikh Ali bin Saud bin Ahmed Al-Thani's resignation as the club's president, and Ali Salem Afifa's resignation as the vice president during the extraordinary General Assembly meeting held at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium.

The General Assembly has scheduled the election for a new president and vice president on August 6 to complete the remaining term of the board of directors until July 2024. Nominations will be accepted for two days starting from tomorrow, Tuesday.

During the meeting, members of the General Assembly expressed gratitude to the previous administration for their efforts and emphasized the importance of appointing competent administrators for all sports. They particularly highlighted the need to enhance athletics and capitalize on recent progress in basketball. Additionally, they stressed the importance of redoubling efforts to bring the football team back to winning platforms and achieve titles and championships.

Sheikh Saud bin Ahmed Al-Thani was elected as the president of Al Rayyan Club, and Ali Salem as the vice president in 2019 for a one-year interim period following the resignation of the previous president, Sheikh Saud bin Khalid Al-Thani, and Vice President Abdullah Azeddine Al Mattuah.

They were re-elected during the General Assembly meeting held in August 2020 for a term extending until 2024.

Under the guidance of Portuguese coach Leonardo Jardim, Al Rayyan is preparing for the upcoming season of the Qatari Stars League 2023/2024, which begins on August 17 with a match against Al Markhiya at Al Janoub Stadium in the opening round.

In the previous 2022/2023 season, Al Rayyan finished ninth with 20 points, just two points from tenth-placed Al Sailiya and the eleventh-placed Al-Shamal.
