Team Qatar faces South Korea

Seoul, 6 September 2023 - Qatar's Olympic football team faces South Korea on Wednesday in the qualification stage for the 2024 AFC U-23 Asian Cup.

Qatar already qualified for the final tournament as the host country, but the team will still participate in the qualifiers during the period from September 6 to 12. The matches will not be considered when calculating the group ranking.

The draw placed Qatar in Group B, along with South Korea, Myanmar and Kyrgyzstan. The team will first face South Korea on Wednesday, Myanmar on Saturday and Kyrgyzstan on Tuesday.

This marks the first appearance of Portuguese coach Ilidio Vale as head coach of the team after the Qatar Football Association (QFA) appointed him in the position back on August 9.

Qatar submitted their interest to compete in the qualifiers to better prepare for the 2024 AFC U-23 Asian Cup held in Doha next year. It holds great importance as it qualifies for the football tournament in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Players competing in the Qatari team include goalkeepers Amir Hassan, Ali Nader and Yousef Abdulla.

Defenders are Jassim Jaber, Diab Haroun, Saifeldeen Hassan, Abdulrahman Rashid, Abdulla Al Sulati, Abdulla Al Ali, Abdulla Al Yazidi, Abdulla Yousif and Mohamed Aiash.

Midfielders are Osama Al Tairi, Khalid Ali, Abdulrahman Rafat, Abdulaziz Mohamed, Faisal Mohamed, Mahdi Al Mejaba, Nabil Irfan and Naif Al Hadhrami.

Forwards are Ahmed Al Rawi, Ahmed Al Saeed, Elyas Hamid, Tamim Mansoor, Lotfi Madjer, Mohamed Khalid and Mohamed Surag.
