Annual General Conference of the International Partnership Against Corruption in Sport

Vienna, 13 September 2023 - The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) participated in the Annual General Conference of the International Partnership Against Corruption in Sport held at the Headquarters of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna, Austria.

The conference was attended by Director of the QOC Legal Affairs Department H.E Shiekh Ahmad bin Nooh Al-Thani representing the QOC and Olympic Movement in the state of Qatar alongside other international sports organizations, governments, inter-governmental organizations, and other relevant stakeholders.

IPACS Annual General Conference aims to discuss progress, raise awareness of and generate further support for IPACS among key stakeholders.

The QOC’s participation in the conference reflects its commitment to align with the strong collaboration between the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the UNODC. This collaboration comes as a result of a long-term partnership, which both organizations had previously affirmed during 4th International Forum for Sports Integrity, by the IOC President H.E. Thomas Bach when said “We need the support of governments, in particular with regard to the harmonisation of legislation and the commitment of law enforcement entities. This is why I would like to call upon more governments to join our efforts, because only if we stand united can we win the fight against corruption and misconduct in sport.”

For her part, the UNODC Executive Director H.E. Ghada Fathi Waly, said “The United Nations has begun collaborating with both international and national parliaments to combat sports corruption and We emphasize the necessity of collaboration between governments and sports institutions to protect sports from corruption.
