Doha, 25 November 2023 - The closing day of the nine world championships 2023 in snooker and English Billiards witnessed a new achievement for Qatari snooker as the Qatari national team consisting of the duo Ahmed Saif and Bashar Hussein won third place and the bronze medal in the IBSF World Team Snooker Championships making it the third medal and the best conclusion to the Qatari participation in this major event.
The Qatari national team had previously won two medals, a gold and a bronze, thanks to player Ali Al Obaidli, who achieved a great achievement after winning the IBSF World Men's Snooker Championship title and third place in the IBSF World 6-Red Snooker.
President of the International Snooker Federation Mubarak Al Khayarin praised the great successes achieved by the nine world championships in snooker and English billiards, hosted by Qatar and organized by the Qatar Billiards & Snooker Federation (QBSF) over three weeks with the participation of more than 200 players representing about 40 countries.
Al Khayarin said in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), that the world championships 2023 witnessed great success for Qatari snooker in particular and Arab snooker in general after the Qatar national team was able to achieve the first gold medal in the history of the Arabs in the World Snooker Championships.
He added that the nine world championships achieved great success by all standards, pointing out that this distinguished success is due primarily to the QBSF, which provided all the capabilities and equipment to hold the competitions in an ideal atmosphere.
Al Khayarin explained that the nine world championships witnessed high technical levels in light of the presence of the world's most prominent players and former champions, noting that the championships witnessed great surprises in light of the crowning of new champions in various competitions which confirms the development of the sport of snooker and the emergence of new champions.
