Kuala Lumpur, 3 July 2019- The 2019 AFC Champions League quarter-finals draw was held yesterday at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
In the West Zone quarter-finals, the winner of Qatar’s Al Sadd vs Al Duhail round of 16 tie, scheduled for August 6 and 13, will play the winner of the clash between Saudi Arabia’s Al Nasr and Al Wahda of the UAE. The first leg will take place on August 26, with the return leg on September 16.
The other West Zone quarter-final will see the winners of the Al Ittihad (Saudia) and Zobahan (Iran) Round of 16 tie pitted against the victors of the tie between Saudi clubs Al Ahli and Al Hilal. The first leg will be played on August 27 with the return leg on September 17.
The AFC decided to postpone the 16th round of Champions League from May to early August because of the participation of Qatar in Copa America in Brazil. In the East zone, defending champions Kashima Antlers, aiming to become the first Japanese side to win back-to-back titles, will face two-time AFC Champions League winners Guangzhou Evergrande FC from China PR.
Guangzhou, who have not gone beyond the quarter-final stage since 2015, will welcome Kashima on August 28 before travelling to Japan on September 18. (TNN)
