Doha, 8 October 2019 - The CEO of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Nasser al-Khater yesterday affirmed that Kuwait is one of the biggest supporters of Qatar as the build-up continues to world football’s greatest showpiece.
Al-Khater was speaking in Kuwait City at a dialogue session organised within the activities of the scientific forum on arts and media by Kuwait’s Public Authority for Youth and Sport with the participation of youth from the GCC countries, Jordan and Morocco.
Al-Khater said Qatar is hosting the most important international sporting event, the FIFA World Cup, because of its significant impact on the development and acceleration of infrastructure work of the country, as well as its significant role in human sustainability and economic development. He also pointed to the partnership between the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) and the FIFA to organise the tournament, stressing that great facility will be available for all the fans, who will come from all over the world to participate in the World Cup.
Al-Khater said there will be about 20,000 volunteers during the tournament. The matches will be played in eight stadiums, including seven completely new ones, and Khalifa International Stadium, which has been redeveloped.
He explained that all the stadiums will have air conditioning technology, although the tournament will be held in winter, noting that the relatively small area of Qatar compared to the previous countries that hosted the tournament and the proximity of the stadiums will be a positive factor for the fans, which is expected to exceed one million people.
He pointed out that the fans who will participate in this event will be able to attend more than one game in one day thanks to the modern transport network that Qatar has prepared for the tournament.
