Doha- People’s Republic of China held on to take Gold in the Men’s Team at the 48th Artistic Gymnastics World Championship with a score of 256.634. The podium order was decided by the very last athlete on the horizontal bar, Nikita Nagornyy of the Russian Federation. His score was 0.049 short of the mark and saw the Chinese walk away from the Aspire Dome, Doha with the world title.
The Men’s Team final started off evenly, with Russian Federation pulling away from the field in the 3rd and 4th rotation with strong performances on Rings and Vault – Artur Dalaloyan and Nikita Nagornyy scoring in 15.033 and 15.066 respectively on the vault.
Sharing the apparatus with Russia Federation the entire final, People’s Republic of China responded with Lin Chaopan chalking up a score of 15.133 on the parallel bars followed by Zou Jingyuan with an outstanding 16.200 to help China retain their world title.
The results were decided on the final apparatus, horizontal bars, which had the onlooking athletes and crowd cheering the roof off Aspire Dome. China held their nerve to keep the title, leaving Russian Federation (256.585) with silver and Japan (253.744) with Bronze.
Over the remaining five days, the worlds best will compete in a series of finals to decide who will be crowned 2018 World Champions. Finals for Women’s Team, Men’s & Women’s All-Arounders and Men’s & Women’s Apparatus Finals are still to be held. More importantly, the three medal-winning countries in the Women’s Team competition will also pick up four tickets each to Tokyo, which is the first opportunity to secure a spot in Artistic Gymnastics for the 2020 Olympic Games.
